The United States Department of Defense has escalated its scrutiny of Chinese technology firms operating within its borders. In a recent move, the Pentagon has designated more than a dozen Chinese tech companies, including prominent names in AI, drone manufacturing, and semiconductor production, as entities linked to the Chinese military. This significant step intensifies the ongoing tensions between the US and China over technology and security.

Identifying Potential Threats

Among the companies newly identified are Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC), a leading memory-chip maker, alongside Artificial Intelligence giants Yitu Technology and Beijing Megvii. Chengdu JOUAV, a drone maker, Hesai Technology, known for its LiDAR technology, and NetPosa, a tech company, also find themselves on this list.

These firms are accused of having connections to the Chinese military, raising alarms over national security risks for the United States, reports SCMP.

This action aligns these companies with previously identified entities like DJI Technology, a consumer drone maker, and BGI, China’s foremost genetics firm. They are part of the 1260H list, a catalog informing US and international companies about entities potentially contributing to Beijing’s military-industrial complex.
