The DJI Avata 2 has arrived, and camera reviewer and drone enthusiast Farouk, aka iPhonedo takes it for an exhilarating test flight at Lake Dolores. In this review, he shares his experiences with the new drone, highlighting its improved design, specs, and flight capabilities.

iPhonedo, who previously tested the first-generation Avata at the same location, is excited to get his hands on the DJI Avata 2. He has been practicing on simulators to improve his FPV skills and confidence before taking the new drone out for its maiden flight.

Design and Specs

DJI has once again impressed with the Avata 2‘s gorgeous design, which resembles a cinewhoop drone. The camera has been upgraded to a 1/1.3″ sensor, capable of shooting 4K 60fps HDR videos and 10-bit D-Log footage. The drone also features downward vision positioning for improved hovering stability.

The Avata 2 boasts a maximum flight time of 23 minutes and an O3 transmission system that supports up to 60 Mbps transmission over a range of 13 km. The internal storage has been increased to 46 GB, with the option to add a 128 GB SD card for even more storage capacity.

New Goggles and Motion Controller

The Avata 2 comes with new, more comfortable goggles that feature two cameras for a see-through view. The narrow field of view makes it easier to spot the drone while flying. The package also includes the Motion Controller 3, which allows for intuitive one-handed control of the drone. The joystick on the controller enables more advanced maneuvers, such as circling around objects while maintaining a specific direction.

Flying the Avata 2

iPhonedo takes the Avata 2 for a spin, testing out various modes and features. The head tracking and easy modes make flying the drone a breeze, even for novice pilots. The 180 Drift and Flip modes add an extra layer of excitement to the flight experience.

During the flight, he attempts a loop and crashes the drone. Thanks to the Avata 2‘s sturdy construction, it survives the impact with only minor scuffs and continues to fly and record footage.

Final thoughts

The DJI Avata 2 proves to be a thrilling and user-friendly drone that caters to both beginners and experienced pilots. With its improved design, specs, and flight capabilities, the Avata 2 offers an exhilarating flight experience that is sure to impress. As the reviewer concludes, “I like it. Very sturdy, very sturdy.”
