Hello fellow pilots. Or drone operators. Whichever you like more. How are you today? Are you already feeling envy for the chosen ones who have their brand new Mavic 4 Pro? Now with Bluetooth, infrared, RJ-45, RS-232, serial 9-pin, full HDMI, printer and SDI-12G ports. Plus that magical 360-degree gimbal they’re showing off on Instagram.
Don’t worry. You are not the only one. Come here. Let’s open our hearts about how to find inner peace when DJI releases a brand new shiny toy that flies with a price tag of $4649.
Plus tax.

(And don’t forget the “essential” accessories bundle they’ll try to sell you at checkout. Another $499 for some electronic ND filters and a backpack with more zippers than you’ll ever use.)
The Cycle We All Know Too Well
First of all, we need to study the past to predict the future. So as soon as in at least six months, you can bet that DJI will provide their eager customers with a brand new “Mavic 4 Non-Pro” with only two cameras, and in eight more months in the stores will be the shiny “Mavic 4 Classic” with just one camera but still the same body that made you fall in love when you saw it for the first time.
And you and I, we both know that I’m not lying. It’s their strategy, my friend. The ones with more money (or more mortgage-oriented mindsets) will be the first to taste that technology and their infinity 360 gimbal. They’ll post those impossibly smooth hyperlapse videos on social media, and we’ll all pretend we’re not impressed while secretly rewatching them 17 times.
There’s nothing bad with that. It’s just how the tech world spins.
The Alternatives (Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love My Current Drone)
Meanwhile, why don’t we start looking at more affordable and still shiny new drones? The DJI Mini 5 Pro is just around the corner. And the DJI Air 4. We are not talking about new DJI Inspires because they are not only more expensive than the M4P but also their release dates are faaaaar from one another. By the time you save up for one, they’ll announce the next model. It’s like trying to catch a bus that keeps driving faster each time you get close.
And I’m not going to ask you again if you need, or deserve, a Mavic 4 Pro. Because that’s not the point.
Finding Your Zen (Without Emptying Your Wallet)
The point is to learn to be at peace with yourself. Because peace and a good night’s sleep are worth more than $5,000. And peace comes from being sincere with ourselves. To be honest and not lying to ourselves. To be able to look in the mirror in the morning and know for sure that a new, expensive drone will not make you any better at what you do.
Remember that absolutely stunning sunset video you shot with your “outdated” drone last summer? The one that made your friends go “Wow!” and your mom finally understand why you spend so much time with “those flying things”? Yeah, that wasn’t the drone. That was you.
Because what we do and what we are is something they don’t sell anywhere. And we paid the price with time and effort. Day after day, we are just scaling up, becoming better without any new gizmos.
The Real Cost of Gear Acquisition Syndrome
Let me tell you a little story. Last year, I met a guy at a drone meetup. He had the latest everything—drone, gimbal, laptop, editing software, custom controller with more buttons than a spaceship. His gear bag probably cost more than my first car. When we all showed our footage at the end of the day, his videos were… well, let’s just say the drone was doing all the work, not the pilot.

Meanwhile, there was this woman with a three-year-old Mini that made us all gasp with her creative angles and perfect timing. She knew exactly where to be and when. No amount of obstacle avoidance sensors or AI tracking can replace that instinct.
Practical Steps for Drone Zen
Want to have peace? Talk sincerely to yourself. Check what you’re doing with your day, how many hours you lose scrolling through apps, watching unboxing videos of drones you don’t need, and stop doing what is eating your valuable time.
Sleep well. Eat well. Learn to say “no” more often, to more people—especially to that voice in your head that whispers “but this one has 6K resolution!” when in social media you already show everything in 1080p anyway.
Try this: For one week, every time you feel the urge to check DJI’s website for the latest specs, go fly your current drone instead. Create something. Anything. Even if it’s just a simple orbit around a tree in your backyard. The satisfaction of creating will last longer than the fleeting joy of unboxing new gear.
The Bottom Line
That’s the way to peace. Peace is earned, not bought. It comes from mastering what you have, not constantly chasing what you don’t.
And how actively are you looking for peace in your life? Let me know in the comments. Are you a gear-head always hunting for the next best thing, or have you found contentment with your current setup? Share your drone zen wisdom below!
P.S. If you’ve already ordered the DJI Mavic 4 Pro, no judgment here. Just send me your old drone. You know, for… recycling purposes. I’m very environmentally conscious that way.
