Over the past two months, an X account formerly known as Twitter under the handle @Xiao_Hao_4, posted several aerial photos and videos which include detailed views of the USS Ronald Reagan, an amphibious command ship USS Blue Ridge, and other naval assets at Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan. This content, particularly four photos uploaded on April 4, 2024, showcases various parts of the naval base and seems to have been taken from a drone.

Another set of visuals posted on May 8 included additional photos and a video indicating a direct overhead flight path over the aircraft carrier. The uploader, predominantly communicating in Chinese, claims these posts as “Secret content for secret contents.”

Investigation and Security Measures

The Navy, aware of the imagery, conducted an investigation through the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS). Justin Keller, a base spokesman, communicated that the investigation could not conclusively determine a drone’s presence over the base. Furthermore, Keller assured that the base’s security and that of its crew were never compromised, citing robust daily force protection measures.

Questions about the authenticity of the images remain, as NCIS has not disclosed whether they were real or fabricated. An immediate response from the service’s spokesperson was pending as of the last update.
