Is The DJI Mini 4 Pro Drone Still Worth It In 2025?

Estimated read time 5 min read

Good day, folks! Shawn here from Air Photography. As we head into spring and summer, perhaps some of you are considering purchasing your very first drone. Or maybe you’re a vlogger looking to add fresh perspectives to your content. You’ve been eyeing different drones, and the Mini 4 Pro has caught your attention. You might be wondering if it’s still a relevant and worthwhile purchase in 2025. The Mini 4 Pro launched in September 2023, and you may be questioning whether investing in technology that’s nearly two years old is a smart move—or if you should opt for something newer altogether.

Why the Mini 4 Pro Remains Relevant

In my opinion, the Mini 4 Pro is definitely still relevant and an excellent purchase in 2025. It can even compete with some of the more modern drones released recently. For anyone seeking a drone at the hobbyist level—whether for social media or even some professional applications—the Mini 4 Pro remains fully capable, thanks to its advanced technologies.

True Vertical Filming for Social Media

When it comes to creating content for social media, the DJI Mini 4 Pro stands out as the only drone from DJI that offers true vertical filming. While filming, the camera can rotate vertically to capture footage in a vertical format. Other DJI drones can film in vertical formats, but their software crops the video, leaving you with a 2.7K file—which is usually adequate for social media. However, with the Mini 4 Pro’s true vertical filming, you can shoot in full 4K resolution. This delivers higher quality and greater flexibility during editing and post-production. For those prioritizing social media content creation, the Mini 4 Pro is an outstanding choice.

Robust Safety Features

Even though many consider the DJI Mini 4 Pro an entry-level drone, it boasts robust safety features found across most DJI drones. It has sensors all around, including at the bottom, providing omnidirectional obstacle avoidance. This is especially valuable if you’re a new pilot using intelligent flight features where the drone flies autonomously. It offers peace of mind that mishaps are less likely. While obstacle avoidance isn’t foolproof—you still need to be cautious of your surroundings—it’s a fantastic feature for such a compact drone. Additionally, the return-to-home function acts as a failsafe if the controller connection drops, and the low-battery return-to-home ensures you don’t have to worry about power as a beginner. The drone automatically returns once the battery gets too low.

Camera Capabilities for Stunning Shots

When it comes to cinematography and photography, a drone’s camera is key. Though the Mini 4 Pro has been out for some time, its camera remains on par with today’s standards. It features a 1/1.3-inch sensor with good dynamic range and performs well in low-light scenarios. You can also film in D-Log M for custom grading. Combined with its flight characteristics, the Mini 4 Pro captures smooth, cinematic footage and engaging shots, even in windy conditions, thanks to its Level 5 wind rating. While it won’t match the performance of larger drones like the Mavic 3 Pro or Air 3 series, it holds its own remarkably well for its foldable, sub-250g design.

Perfect for Travelers and Hobbyists

Being under 250 grams, the Mini 4 Pro is a great choice for travelers. In many Countries, drones below this weight face fewer regulations. If you’re a backpacker or hiker aiming to keep your pack light, this small drone adds a dynamic flair to your content without weighing you down. Despite its age, it still offers advanced flight features we expect from DJI, including Master Shots, hyperlapses, waypoint missions, and Focus Track (with capabilities like Active Track, Point of Interest, and my favorite, Spotlight, which I use often). These intelligent flight features make it a versatile tool for any drone pilot.

Long Flight Time and Value

The Mini 4 Pro boasts one of the highest flight time ratings—up to 45 minutes with the Plus battery. If you’re considering investing in a drone this summer and worried about buying one that’s nearly two years old, rest assured: technology moves fast, but the Mini 4 Pro still outperforms many newer drones from other brands in flight characteristics, performance, intelligent features, and reliability. While DJI will eventually release an updated version—perhaps this year or next—the Mini 4 Pro holds its value well. You could resell it later to upgrade or keep flying it, as it will remain a capable drone for years to come.

So, folks, those are my thoughts on whether the Mini 4 Pro is still a good choice in 2025. It’s a fantastic drone for beginners, content creators, vloggers, and even some professional uses. If you need a small, affordable drone, the Mini 4 Pro remains an excellent option for a wide variety of users.
