DJI Mavic 4 Pro will go vertical and beyond leaked video shows

Estimated read time 3 min read

Exciting developments in the verification of rumored DJI Mavic 4 Pro specifications. Some days ago my Chinese friend YueYue –who you all know by now– send me a video showing the screen of a DJI Mavic 4 Pro controller. The screen displayed some interesting features. Even a new feature we never asked for? Let’s ‘turn some heads’ today and go through it step by step.

Beyond 90 degrees

We have all seen DJI Mini cameras go vertical with the push of a button. It’s a feature many Air 3S owners would like to have, just to rotate the camera and shoot at the highest possible resolution their drone offers. With the new camera design of the DJI Mavic 4 Pro it seems many prayers will be answered, because it will likely push the limits even further. In an exclusive screen recording my friend showed me, the new gimbal design will not only pitch up and down but also roll past 90 degrees… up to 180 degrees! That is upside down people, both ways.

New leaked video proves DJI Mavic 4 will roll camera beyond 90 degrees, up to 175 and possibly 360.

Upside Down View

One can only speculate what the purpose of such a feature on the DJI Mavic 4 camera gimbal implies. Obviously a gimbal on camera needs to also roll in order to keep the picture level with the horizon. In a harsh wind you want a gimbal to correct the roll, pitch and tilt. But new buttons to adjust the roll of the camera is one very interesting new way of creating that extra creative shot, loss-less without a lot of editing in postproduction.

That said, my source also confirmed the new remote indeed shows a controllable tilt angle that goes down to a normal negative 90°. But elevates up to a 70°. This is 10 degrees more than most drones like the DJI Air 3S, Mini 4 and Neo. But a huge step compared to the Mavic series that only went up to 35 degrees.

New gimbal design

Personally, I don’t like the flying security camera look of the DJI Mavic 4 but I understand the design. And just like every other design from DJI we will get used to it, and its design will eventually transfer to every other drone like the DJI Air 4. A big issue with this design is the vulnerability of the camera. Previously the gimbal was placed directly under the body, so in the event of a crash the gimbal wouldn’t take the full hit. I sincerely hope the LiDAR or infrared and new omnidirectional sensing system will do their job avoiding obstacles, and preventing very expensive crashes.

More DJI Mavic 4 Pro Leaks To Come

That’s it for today. More DJI Mavic 4 Pro leaks are expected this weekend. But I won’t leave you with promises this time. I’ll happily share these newly leaked pictures of a Mavic 4 flying in the wild and some pictures of the Mavic 4 shells leaked yesterday. These apparently (smooth) prototypes are from the molding process in a Chinese factory. In the end they will always be textured.

Cheers! Jasper
