DJI Goggles N3: Full Review and Immersive FPV Experience

Estimated read time 5 min read

The experience of having one single screen with the DJI Goggles N3 is a game-changer. It’s amazing how much better it feels, especially considering these goggles are cheaper than previous versions. I can’t quite grasp how the Goggles N3 are so much cheaper than the Goggles 3, but they are, and it’s a great value.

Flying FPV: An Escape Like No Other

Whether you’re happy or disappointed with the election results, flying an FPV drone has a unique way of bringing joy. Pushing the joystick forward almost tips it over, creating a thrilling sensation that feels as close as you can get to flying without actually being airborne. If you’ve never tried FPV, it’s hard to fully appreciate until you experience it yourself.

Lens Adjustment Issues? Not Anymore

One of my biggest challenges with previous models was adjusting the lens spacing to avoid blurry edges. With the DJI Goggles N3 and its single ultra-wide screen (54° field of view), I see everything clearly without having to constantly adjust. I put the goggles on, and I’m ready to fly—no more feeling like I’m looking through binoculars.

Accommodating Glasses for Extra Convenience

Another advantage of this design is that it allows for glasses, which is convenient for people who may have avoided previous DJI goggles due to this issue. While I don’t wear prescription glasses, I do use readers occasionally. They fit perfectly with the N3, which is a big plus.

Comfort Level Redefined

The Goggles N3 feature a soft fabric-wrapped foam that wraps around your face evenly instead of squeezing it. The material reminds me of high-end memory foam pillows—it’s incredibly soft and comfortable. I find that I have to position them a bit lower on my nose than other versions, but the fit is excellent with no pressure points.

Say Goodbye to Light Leaks

Light leaks were a common problem with previous FPV goggles. With the N3, I noticed a big improvement. The Goggles 3, for example, would let in light around the lower cheek area, but the N3 is virtually pitch black once worn. Even if some light slips in, wearing a hat backward helps to eliminate it completely.

Balanced Design: Comfort for Extended Use

When I first opened the box, I thought the N3 goggles might be front-heavy due to their size. Surprisingly, they are well-balanced, so you can wear them through multiple battery sessions without fatigue. The streamlined design is minimalistic—no diopter adjustment dials, front-facing cameras, or side touchpads—similar to classic analog box-style goggles but with vastly improved video quality.

Customizable Straps for Perfect Fit

The N3’s strap system is one of the reasons for its comfort. Unlike the Goggles 3, where pressure is concentrated on the top of your head, the N3 uses a dual-strap design that distributes weight evenly across the back of your head. This design reduces fatigue and makes the goggles comfortable for long sessions.

Easy Button Layout and Crisp Video Feed

All buttons, including the power button, back button, 5D button, micro SD card slot, and USB-C port, are conveniently located on the top. The 3.5-inch 1080p screen provides a crisp, artifact-free video feed with latency under 0.31 seconds, allowing precise and responsive flight control.

Confidence to Fly in Manual Mode

The clarity and wide field of view make me more willing to practice flying in manual mode. I’ve been hesitant to try FPV in Acro mode, but the N3 inspires confidence, encouraging me to explore new flight experiences.

Impressive O4 Transmission and Range

The N3 features DJI’s O4 transmission, with a signal range of up to 13 km when paired with the Neo and Ava 2 drones. While this range is possible under ideal conditions, in most environments, expect a practical range of a few thousand feet. Signal strength may vary, especially if there are obstacles like trees.

Extended Battery Life

The goggles offer up to 2.7 hours of flight time per charge, comparable to the Goggles 3, and providing ample time for extended flying sessions before needing to recharge.

Additional Features: Acro Mode, Defogging, and Power Loop

With head tracking, easy Acro mode, and a defog feature, the N3 is packed with functionality. The new Power Loop mode allows for a controlled backflip, which might make some users dizzy the first time they try it!

Real-Time Streaming with Wi-Fi

The N3 now supports real-time video streaming via Wi-Fi. Although this feature wasn’t available at the time of this video’s release, it’s expected in an upcoming Firmware Update, adding even more value to these goggles.

Affordable and Feature-Rich at $229

At launch, the DJI Goggles N3 is priced at $229—a fantastic deal given the comfort, functionality, and quality improvements over previous models. For the latest pricing, check the link in the video description, as prices may change over time.
