High-Tech Search: Drone’s Thermal Imaging Leads to Swift Rescue

In a remarkable display of modern policing techniques, the Albany Police Department successfully located a missing person on Saturday, leveraging the advanced capabilities of their Drone Technology.

The operation began around 5:30 p.m. after officers responded to a call from a residence on Sand Street about a 39-year-old individual who had left his home in a concerning manner, reports CBS 6 Albany.

Utilizing the individual’s cell phone to track his location, officers traced him to the vicinity of Slingerland Street and Oneida Terrace. He was spotted running through the woods behind 98 Slingerland Street.

In a crucial move, the Albany Police deployed one of the department’s drones to assist in the search.

The drone, equipped with thermal imaging capabilities, played a pivotal role in this successful operation. It enabled the officers to locate the missing man in the wooded area of 98 Slingerland Street, despite the challenging terrain and limited visibility.

The missing individual was found around 7:15 p.m., thanks to the drone’s advanced technology. He received immediate on-site treatment from emergency medical personnel and was subsequently transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital for further evaluation.

This incident not only underscores the effectiveness of drones in Search and Rescue operations but also highlights the Albany Police Department’s commitment to integrating innovative technology in public safety efforts.
