Sydney-based DroneShield lands major domestic deal as drone threats escalate across Australia.
An Australian law enforcement agency has selected counter-drone Specialist DroneShield (ASX:DRO) to deliver advanced counter-unmanned aircraft systems under a contract valued at over $1 million, the company announced on May 21, 2025.

The procurement represents part of a broader modernization initiative to address the growing risks posed by unauthorized drone activity across Australian airspace. With drones becoming increasingly accessible and sophisticated, law enforcement agencies are scrambling to deploy effective countermeasures against potential surveillance, disruption, and attack scenarios.
Multi-Layered Defense System Deployed
DroneShield’s solution suite will provide the unnamed agency with a comprehensive range of detection and neutralization capabilities. The contract includes hand-held, mobile, and expeditionary systems designed to operate across diverse operational environments, from critical infrastructure protection to major public events and restricted airspace enforcement.

At the technology’s core lies an integration of AI-driven radio frequency sensing, deep-learning-based signal recognition, and non-kinetic countermeasures. This multi-layered approach enables officers to detect, assess, and neutralize rogue drones with speed and precision while maintaining operational simplicity.
The deployment will likely include DroneShield’s DroneGun Mk4, a rugged handheld device capable of disrupting control, navigation, and video systems across multiple drone types simultaneously. When activated, targeted drones typically respond by landing vertically on the spot or returning to their operator, while any live video streaming is interrupted.

Australian Sovereignty Takes Center Stage
The contract reinforces Australia’s emphasis on sovereign capability in national security infrastructure. By selecting a locally developed and operated solution, the agency ensures rapid delivery, streamlined training, and ongoing product updates tailored to Australia’s unique threat landscape.
“We’re proud to support another Australian law enforcement agency with our sovereign, AI-powered solutions,” said DroneShield CEO Oleg Vornik. “As drone incursions become more frequent, particularly around high-profile events and critical assets, frontline personnel need effective tools that are easy to deploy and operate.”
The procurement also aligns with the Australian Government’s Commonwealth Procurement Rules, which prioritize domestic innovation and industrial resilience within defense and security sectors.
Company Strengthens Global Market Position
Founded in 2014 and ASX-listed since 2016, DroneShield has positioned itself as a global pioneer in the counter-drone market. The Sydney-headquartered company maintains operations across Australia and the United States, with a partner network spanning over 70 Countries worldwide.
The company’s technology portfolio extends beyond counter-drone solutions into adjacent areas including electronic warfare and signals intelligence (SIGINT). Its capabilities serve military, government, law enforcement, critical infrastructure, and VIP protection clients globally.
This latest contract strengthens DroneShield’s domestic footprint while highlighting the increasing relevance of counter-drone solutions in civilian security environments. As drone threats become more complex and response times more critical, law enforcement agencies worldwide are investing heavily in detection and mitigation technologies.
The announcement comes amid escalating global concerns over unauthorized drone activity near airports, government facilities, and public events. Recent incidents worldwide have demonstrated the potential for drones to disrupt operations, conduct surveillance, or pose direct security threats.

With approximately 20,000 shareholders and no controlling strategic investor, DroneShield continues expanding its market presence through organic growth and strategic partnerships. The company’s focus on rapid prototyping, MIL-SPEC manufacturing, and bespoke solutions positions it well for continued expansion in the evolving counter-drone market.
DroneShield has not disclosed the specific law enforcement agency involved in the contract, citing operational security considerations.
