An Australian law enforcement agency has selected counter-drone Specialist DroneShield (ASX:DRO) to deliver advanced counter-unmanned aircraft systems under a contract valued at over $1 million, the company announced on May 21, 2025.

The procurement represents part of a broader modernization initiative to address the growing risks posed by unauthorized drone activity across Australian airspace. With drones becoming increasingly accessible and sophisticated, law enforcement agencies are scrambling to deploy effective countermeasures against potential surveillance, disruption, and attack scenarios.

Multi-Layered Defense System Deployed

DroneShield’s solution suite will provide the unnamed agency with a comprehensive range of detection and neutralization capabilities. The contract includes hand-held, mobile, and expeditionary systems designed to operate across diverse operational environments, from critical infrastructure protection to major public events and restricted airspace enforcement.

At the technology’s core lies an integration of AI-driven radio frequency sensing, deep-learning-based signal recognition, and non-kinetic countermeasures. This multi-layered approach enables officers to detect, assess, and neutralize rogue drones with speed and precision while maintaining operational simplicity.

The deployment will likely include DroneShield’s DroneGun Mk4, a rugged handheld device capable of disrupting control, navigation, and video systems across multiple drone types simultaneously. When activated, targeted drones typically respond by landing vertically on the spot or returning to their operator, while any live video streaming is interrupted.

The contract reinforces Australia’s emphasis on sovereign capability in national security infrastructure. By selecting a locally developed and operated solution, the agency ensures rapid delivery, streamlined training, and ongoing product updates tailored to Australia’s unique threat landscape.
