The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is set to broaden the horizons for drone integration into U.S. airspace by opening applications for new service suppliers under the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) program starting May 1, 2024. • Review and Interviews: The FAA will review submissions from June 3 to July 5, followed by technical interviews where applicants can demonstrate their products.
• Formal Testing: From August 12 to October 11, applicants will integrate their systems with the LAANC automation platform, undergoing rigorous testing to ensure compliance with performance rules.
• Operational Launch: Successful applicants will launch their services from October 14 to November 13 after signing all necessary agreements with the FAA.

What’s New This Year?

For the first time, new service suppliers may also apply to provide the B4UFLY service, an addendum to the LAANC program aimed at further enhancing drone flight safety and compliance.
