Good day folks, Shawn here from Air Photography. Just a super quick video for you today. As many of you are probably already aware, the Osmo Action 5 Pro from DJI got a pretty significant Firmware Update a few days ago.

DJI Action 5 Pro: Higher Bit Rate Option

The biggest and most important feature, in my opinion, is that it’s now given us the option to set a higher bit rate. That’s kind of one of the biggest concerns about the Osmo Action 5 Pro when it was first launched – the bit rate was lowered quite a bit and there was no option to set a higher bit rate like you can in other action cameras.

But now, if we go to our settings and we scroll down, you can see we have an option here called “Bit Rate” and we can set it to either standard or high.

I did a quick test before I updated the firmware just to see what the difference was. Before updating the firmware, shooting in 8-bit color, you can see the bit rate was 69 megabits per second. After the firmware update with high bit rate selected, you can see the bit rate now has been increased to 102.5 megabits per second. And when shooting in 10-bit color, you can see the bit rate is now 107.8. So definitely an important firmware update.

Additional Features and Improvements

Now there were a lot of other things added with this firmware update:

  • It’s added a new timer shooting function. Again in the settings, you can see we have this new option called “Timer Shooting”. We can enable that and we can select what mode we want to film in. We’ve got video, super night, and time lapse, the time we want it to turn on, the duration, and if we want it to repeat.

Some other aspects they’ve added:

  • Support for audio transmission in webcam mode
  • Improved video quality in live streaming mode
  • Added the high bit rate which we’ve already talked about
  • Added support for displaying a specific style on the front screen when single screen preview is enabled
  • Added support for that new e-bike system that DJI is working on
  • Added support to maintain zoom ratio after the camera is powered off
  • Added support for setting audio gain during live recording
  • Optimized stabilization when recording video with a slow shutter exposure
  • Optimized image quality when the camera is recording video or super night mode

So definitely an important update for the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro.

Well folks, that’s basically it. Thanks a lot for watching and we’ll see you in the next one.
