Cutting-Edge Safety Technology For DJI M400

The PRS-M400 is an ASTM F3322-compliant parachute recovery system designed specifically for the DJI Matrice 400. It integrates a flight termination system to ensure controlled descent in emergencies, reducing risks to people and property below. This technology allows operators to secure waivers for operations over people under U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 107.39 regulations, as well as comply with Transport Canada‘s rules, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s (EASA) MOC 2511 and 2512 standards, and JARUS M2 mitigation requirements for Specific Operations Risk Assessment (SORA).

The system builds on AVSS’s proven engineering from parachutes for other DJI models, like the M350 RTK and M30 series. Its lightweight design ensures minimal impact on the drone’s 15.5-pound (7-kilogram) payload capacity, maintaining flight efficiency for tasks like surveying, inspections, and public safety.

Expanding Operational Possibilities With AVSS

For enterprise pilots, the PRS-M400 unlocks new operational flexibility. Flying over populated areas—previously restricted due to safety concerns—becomes feasible, enabling applications like urban infrastructure monitoring and event coverage. The system’s compliance with international standards also supports beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) operations, a growing demand in industries such as logistics and agriculture.

“AVSS is quickly bringing this compliant parachute recovery system and flight termination system to market,” stated an AVSS spokesperson. This rapid development reflects AVSS’s focus on addressing regulatory hurdles that have long limited commercial drone use.

Industry Trends and Economic Impacts

The PRS-M400 arrives amid increasing demand for safe, scalable drone operations. As Urban Air Mobility and last-mile delivery gain traction, regulators worldwide are tightening safety requirements. AVSS’s solution positions the Matrice 400 as a go-to platform for enterprises navigating these rules, potentially boosting its adoption in the $1.5 billion (USD) commercial drone market.

Priced competitively through AVSS’s global network of over 60 authorized dealers, the PRS-M400 could lower the cost of compliance for operators, who otherwise face expensive custom solutions or restricted flight zones. For small businesses, this means access to high-value contracts in urban settings without prohibitive safety investments.

Looking Ahead

The PRS-M400 strengthens AVSS’s portfolio, which includes parachutes for DJI’s Mavic 3 Enterprise and M200 series, and signals a broader industry shift toward standardized safety solutions. As drones become integral to industries, systems like the PRS-M400 will play a critical role in balancing innovation with public safety.

Pilots and fleet managers can explore the system’s capabilities in a launch video featuring drone expert Billy Kyle, offering a glimpse into its real-world applications. With its global compliance and robust engineering, the PRS-M400 sets a new benchmark for industrial drone operations.
