A Canadian webstore has accidentally leaked the prices for DJI’s upcoming Air 3S drone, giving drone enthusiasts an early look at the cost of this new model and its accessories. The information was shared by Drone Industry insider Jasper Ellens on X (formerly Twitter).
Estimated US Pricing
While the leaked prices were in euros, we’ve estimated potential US pricing based on the current DJI Air 3 model and typical pricing strategies. Here’s our best guess at what the US prices might look like for the DJI Air 3S:
Item | Jasper Ellens Price (EUR) | Estimated US Price |
---|---|---|
Air 3S + RC-N3 | €950 | $1,149 |
Fly More RC-N3 Combo | €1,220 | $1,449 |
Fly More RC2 Combo | €1,359 | $1,549 |
Air 3S battery | €145 | $159 |
ND Filters set | €75 | $79 |
Wide Angle Lens | €50 | $59 |
Pricing Complexities
It’s important to note that these are estimates based on leaked information from a Canadian source, converted to euros, and then estimated for the US market. These estimates take into account that US prices often mirror euro prices numerically, despite currency differences, and consider the current pricing of the DJI Air 3. However, we have not seen the actual CAD prices that Jasper Ellens referred to, nor do we know what exchange rate he used.
Several factors can influence the final US pricing:
- US prices tend to be more competitive.
- US prices typically don’t include sales tax, unlike in many other Countries.
- Tariffs on Chinese-made drones could impact the final price.
- DJI may adjust pricing strategies for different markets.
Overall, we expect the pricing of the DJI Air 3S to be inline with the current DJI Air 3, and possibly slightly adjusted upwards for inflation.
Tariffs and US Pricing
The drone industry has been significantly affected by tariffs in recent years. Tariffs implemented during the Trump administration on Chinese-made drones, including those from DJI, are still largely in place today. These tariffs can lead to higher prices for US consumers, although companies like DJI often try to absorb some of the cost to keep their products competitive.
Drone Features
While the leak doesn’t provide detailed specifications, the Air 3S is expected to offer improvements over its predecessor. The current DJI Air 3 features dual primary cameras (48MP wide-angle and telephoto), 4K/60fps HDR video capability, and a 46-minute max flight time. Based on the leaked information, we expect the Air 3S to build upon these specifications.
RCTrack Delay
Ellens also shared some disappointing news for those interested in the RCTrack controller.
He stated, “Some sad news on the #RCTrack… it probably won’t be sold at the launch yet, there were some issues with it. I’ll update you about it as soon as I can.”
This delay could impact pilots who were looking forward to using the new controller with the Air 3S at launch.
DroneXL’s Take
The estimated pricing for the DJI Air 3S positions it as a mid-range option in DJI’s lineup, potentially offering a slight price increase over the current Air 3 model in exchange for improved features. This aligns with DJI’s strategy of offering drones at various price points to cater to different user needs and budgets.
Despite the potential impact of tariffs and the uncertainty surrounding the final US pricing, the Air 3S looks to be an exciting addition to DJI’s drone lineup, offering advanced features at a relatively accessible price point. As always, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement to get the full picture of this drone’s capabilities, exact pricing, and how it fits into the broader drone market.
