SkyeBrowse, a leading Drone Mapping software company, has unveiled a suite of new features aimed at revolutionizing interior mapping capabilities. In a recent announcement, the company highlights 360-degree camera mapping and significant improvements to its existing interior mapping technology.

360-Degree Mapping: Simplifying 3D Model Creation

The standout feature of this release is the introduction of 360-degree mapping. This new capability allows users to create 3D models from any 360-degree video footage, streamlining the process of interior mapping.

“There’s no need to hire a dedicated Matterport Specialist to make 3D models,” SkyeBrowse stated in their announcement. The process is remarkably straightforward:

  1. Record a video with a 360-degree camera held above your head
  2. Upload the 360-degree video to SkyeBrowse
  3. Select the interior mapping option

After processing, users receive an email containing their completed 3D model.

Enhanced Interior Mapping for DJI Avata

SkyeBrowse has also made significant improvements to its interior mapping capabilities, particularly for footage captured by the DJI Avata drone. The company reports that walls and objects in 3D models generated from DJI Avata videos now appear with improved clarity and detail.

“It’s crazy that interior mapping released just 5 months ago and now we’re averaging 3 interior crime scenes a day,” the company noted, highlighting the rapid adoption of this technology.

Body Cam Integration

Responding to user demand, SkyeBrowse has reintroduced support for body cam footage in its interior mapping feature. This allows users to generate 3D models by simply walking around an area of interest with a body camera.

DroneXL’s Take

The introduction of 360-degree mapping and improvements to interior modeling capabilities represent significant advancements in drone-based mapping technology. These features could have far-reaching implications for various industries, from law enforcement and emergency services to real estate and construction.

As we’ve seen in recent articles about drones in first responder applications, the ability to quickly and accurately map interior spaces can be crucial in emergency situations. SkyeBrowse’s new features, particularly the body cam integration, could provide First Responders with valuable tools for rapidly assessing and documenting indoor environments.

The continuous improvement of interior mapping technology also aligns with the broader trend of drones becoming increasingly versatile tools for data collection and analysis. As these capabilities expand, we can expect to see drones playing an even more significant role in various professional fields.
