In a significant move within the aerospace sector, BAE Systems has officially acquired Malloy Aeronautics, a pioneer in heavy lift drone and aeronautical technologies. This acquisition marks a new era in the realm of unmanned aerial systems (UAS), blending Malloy’s innovative approach with BAE’s extensive resources.

Malloy Aeronautics has made a name for itself by designing and supplying all-electric uncrewed aerial systems. These systems, particularly their heavy lift quadcopters, are known for their ability to carry substantial payloads ranging from 68kg to 300kg. They serve both civil and military sectors, offering more flexible, cost-efficient, and safer alternatives to conventional methods. Malloy’s current workforce, based in Berkshire, will continue their operations, ensuring ongoing support for existing customers while working under the new partnership with BAE Systems.

Oriol Badia, COO of Malloy Aeronautics, reflected on the journey of their company, “We’ve come a long way over the last ten years, turning our vision of sustainable electric heavy lift technology into reality.” He expressed optimism about the merger, which promises to scale customer demands and expedite the delivery of innovative products, including the much-anticipated T-650.
Joint Ventures and Future Prospects
The collaboration has already seen significant milestones, such as the successful demonstration of the T-600 electric uncrewed demonstrator aircraft at a NATO exercise, REPMUS. The teams are now focusing on the T-650 all-electric ‘heavy lift’ UAS, targeting a broad spectrum of clients from military to civilian sectors.
Malloy Within FalconWorks
Malloy Aeronautics will be integrated into FalconWorks, BAE Systems’ research and development wing in the Air sector. Dave Holmes, Managing Director of FalconWorks, described Malloy’s addition as exciting and vital to their commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions to their customers.
