Ultimate DJI Portable Vlogging Kit: A Comprehensive Guide

Crafting the Perfect Vlogging Experience with DJI

Good day, folks! Shawn is here from Air Photography. Today’s video is a fun little project where I’ve put together the ultimate portable vlogging kit from DJI.

DJI has released some incredible products this year, providing everything a vlogger or small creator needs to capture some pretty incredible content.

In this video, we’re going to go through all the gear that I have packed in this portable DJI vlogging kit.

DJI Vlogging Case

To start, the case I’ve chosen is actually for the DJI Air 3. The Air 3 is not in here; I have a different drone, but it’s just a nice size. I really like these shoulder-style or messenger-style bags when I’m out hiking and vlogging. I like to be able to access my gear quickly.

When I don’t need it, I can swing it around back, and it’s out of the way. When I want to pull something out, I can just pull it out front. I don’t have to take my backpack off.

So, quite often, when I’m out vlogging and hiking, I’ll take a messenger-style bag, and the Air 3 bag here is just the perfect size. It’s not overly big, it can hold a lot of gear, and it’s actually quite nice for this type of kit.

So, let’s get into it, and we’ll see what all I have inside here. We’ll just open it up. Now, the thing with vlogging that makes vlogs really engaging is sometimes the b-roll and the type of shots that are included. So having different cameras and different angles can be really important, as well as having a drone.

DJI Mini 4 Pro

To keep this minimal and compact, I decided to go with the DJI Mini 4 Pro. As you can see here, the Mini 4 is a pretty impressive drone.

With it, you don’t have to sacrifice quality or features. It has an incredible camera on it, plus all the advanced features that you want on a drone to be able to capture nice dynamic shots. So, in my portable DJI vlogging kit, I’ve chosen to put in the DJI Mini 4 Pro.

DJI RC 2 Remote Controller

Of course, with a drone, you have to have a controller, so we have the DJI RC2.

DJI Cameras

Now, I actually have three different cameras in there, and I’ll explain why.

DJI Pocket 3

The first camera I have in there is the DJI Pocket 3. This was released not too long ago, a couple of weeks ago, and it’s actually a pretty incredible camera.

Now, I wouldn’t use the Pocket 3 as my primary vlogging camera, although it would work fantastically for that. I actually prefer to vlog with an action camera.

But during the vlog, this thing would work great because you may need to set it down somewhere, have the active track follow you around, or perhaps you want to grab a motion time-lapse, or you’re going to be filming at night in low-light situations.

In those cases, something like the Pocket 3, with its 1-inch sensor and its mechanical gimbal, would be a great choice. So, definitely, the Pocket 3 is included in my portable vlogging kit.

DJI Action 2

The next camera I have in my portable vlogging kit is the Action 2. I know this kind of got some mixed reviews when it was first released, but I actually really like this camera and use it on a regular basis.

With its removable main camera module, this thing is perfect for capturing point-of-view shots. You can wear this around your neck, on a head strap, just sit it off in the distance somewhere.

It’s always great to be able to capture a different angle. It’s non-obtrusive when you wear it, and for the size of it, the video quality is quite good, as is the stabilization.

For me, this is still a valuable tool in my kit no matter what I’m doing, because of its great stabilization and the option you can get for the front-facing screen. It even makes a good camera for vlogging as well.

In fact, earlier this summer, I recorded several vlogs with this camera alone. So, definitely, the Action 2 is included in my portable vlogging kit.

Now, with that said, we need some accessories for it to make it a valuable tool. The first thing I have here is the head strap. I actually use this quite a bit this summer when I was out kayaking, when I was doing some vlogging and some bike riding. It’s great; it’s minimal.

When you’re wearing the Action 2 on a head strap, it’s not uncomfortable to wear, even if you have to wear it for long periods of time. So, if you want to capture some point-of-view shots for your vlog, it’s a great tool to have.

The next thing here I have is the pendant you can wear for the Action 2. This allows you to wear the Action 2 kind of like you’re wearing it as a chest mount. Again, great for grabbing point-of-view shots without being uncomfortable while wearing a chest strap.

DJI Action 4

Finally, the third camera I have in here is the Action 4. This would be my primary vlogging camera. I actually really like the quality and the way it looks when captured on here.

It has excellent video quality, great stabilization. With the Action 4, you can connect a microphone directly to it, so that makes it a very convenient choice.

As well as you can see here, I also have the Osmo extension pole. This is a nice little tool to have because it gives you that little bit of reach while you’re vlogging, and it also has a built-in tripod. So, if you need to set the camera down and do some filming, you can do that as well.

DJI Accessories

Now, a couple of other accessories I have in here is the DJI extension pole. This is great if you need to get a farther shot. Perhaps you’re going to be doing some vlogging, but you want more of a full-body shot. Having this nice big long extension pole will help you do that.

Then, of course, we need some spare batteries if we’re going to be doing a lot of vlogging. We don’t want to be running out of power while we’re out. So, we have some spare batteries, and of course, the charging case keeps them all nicely organized.

Then, tucked away in the back here, I have the Osmo neck mount. This is a great tool for grabbing point-of-view shots. Your Action 4 or the Action 2 can connect directly to it.

With this, you have more stability than wearing the pendant. If you need to capture a certain style of shots, say if you’re riding a bike, it’s a great way to capture those point-of-view shots as well. So, definitely, it has a spot in my vlogging kit.

Of course, we have a spare battery for the drone; we can’t leave without that.

DJI Wireless Mic

And then, for audio, I have the DJI wireless microphone set. This is a great microphone kit, and I’ve used it quite a bit since I got it.

The nice thing about it is it can connect directly to your Action 2 or Action 4. You can just plug it in whenever you need it, and then unplug it when you don’t.

You can use the transmitters as little field recorders if you just need to capture some audio. The battery charging case will keep it charged up in between usage. It’s nice and compact, and it’s just a great microphone to use in a setup like this.

ND Filters

Lastly, I have two ND filter sets in there. I have an ND filter set for the Pocket 3. This is by Freewell; this is their Mega set. It has everything you need.

It has a Mist filter, all the ND Filters you could ever need, including for long-exposure photography, polarizers, and it also has a mist filter.

And then, again, another Mega set by Freewell for the Mini 4 Pro. Again, every type of filter you could ever need, including a mist filter for it as well.

So, yeah, folks, that is my DJI vlogging kit. Of course, like I said, you don’t need all of this, but it does fit into a nice compact case, so it’s easy to travel with, and when you need it, it’s all nicely tucked inside one little bag.
