DJI Testers in Action: New Drone Models Spotted

OsitaLV, a once prominent DJI insider who has recently lost the top spot as DJI leaker to Igor Bogdanov, shared a video clip on Twitter featuring DJI testers working with at least two different drone models.

One of these drones is very likely to be the yet-to-be-released DJI Air 3S. The other is a completely new prototype. This fresh model seems to have a design that is somewhat similar to the DJI Air 3S but the airframe is larger than the DJI Avata or series.

New DJI Drone Details and Testing Setup

New DJI Drone Design

The new drone showcased in the video is a quadcopter with encased propellers, featuring two blades each—similar to the Mavic or Air series drones and different from the three-blade props from the DJI FPV and Avata series.

Notably, the testers were observed removing the battery from the back of the drone and handling it to inspect various components. The drone’s body narrows towards the back, giving it a distinct shape compared to other models.

In the short video we see the DJI tester inspect the new prototype drone and removing the battery from the unmanned aircraft. On the other side next to the DJI tester we see a remote controller that looks very similar to a DJI RC-N2.

This suggests the new drone might be tested for compatibility with existing DJI controllers, ensuring seamless integration with DJI’s ecosystem.

Potential Use Cases

The design and features of the new drone hint at it being an indoor drone, possibly equipped with Time-of-Flight (ToF) or LiDAR sensors for improved obstacle avoidance and subject tracking ability.

These features could make it suitable for First Responders and law enforcement agencies, addressing the need for specialized drones in these sectors.

The DJI Avata has been popular among first responders, but this new model could offer enhancements specifically tailored for their requirements.

If this is indeed the case, this new DJI drone for first responders could offer fierce competition to companies like Skydio and Brinc Drones that are focusing on the Drones as First Responders market.

DJI Air 3S makes an appearance

Next to the new drone, we also see what appears to be the yet-to-be-released DJI Air 3S in action in combination with the DJI RC2. The fact that we are starting to see more videos and footage appear on social media, strengthens our believe that we think the launch of the DJI Air 3S is imminent.
