Navigating the Skies with Enhanced Safety

The DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2, a stalwart in the drone community, has taken a significant leap forward in compliance and safety. DJI has rolled out new firmware updates for both the Phantom 4 Pro V2 and Phantom 4 Pro+ V2 drones, enabling these models to broadcast Remote ID information in the United States.

What is Remote ID?

Remote ID is akin to a digital license plate for drones. It allows a drone in flight to transmit its identification and location to other entities. This feature is not just an innovation; it’s a necessity. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the U.S. has made this capability mandatory for most drones. It serves a critical purpose: helping federal agencies locate drone operators, especially when drones are flown unsafely or in restricted areas.

DJI’s Proactive Approach

In a proactive move, DJI has already updated most of its latest drone models to comply with the Remote ID rule, even though the FAA has deferred the enforcement deadline to March 2024. This underscores DJI’s commitment to safety and regulatory adherence. The message is clear: if your drone can comply through a simple Firmware Update, there’s no excuse for noncompliance.

Updating Your DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2

To comply with the FAA’s Remote ID rule, Phantom 4 Pro V2 and Phantom 4 Pro+ V2 owners should update their aircraft firmware to version 01.00.70.17. The remote controller firmware should also be updated accordingly, alongside the DJI Go 4 App, now required to be at version 4.3.60 for operational functionality.

A critical note from DJI: if you’re using the GS Pro app with your aircraft, avoid this firmware update, as it is not compatible with the new software package.

Post-update, it’s vital to restart the aircraft and the remote controller. Also, a quick check and adjustment of settings like the Return-To-Home altitude and maximum flight distance is recommended, as these may default after the update.

In case of an update failure, a simple restart of the aircraft, remote controller, and the DJI GO 4 or DJI Assistant 2 app, followed by a retry, should resolve the issue.

Embracing the Future of Drone Technology

This update marks a significant step in aligning the popular DJI Phantom 4 Pro V2 series with the latest safety and regulatory standards. For detailed information on the update and how to proceed, users can refer to the Phantom 4 Pro/Pro+ V2.0 Release Notes.

This move by DJI is a testament to their dedication to advancing Drone Technology while prioritizing safety and compliance in the ever-evolving airspace.
