The DJI Neo: A Game Changer for Drone Enthusiasts

Estimated read time 4 min read

I’ve already recorded the intro to this video, but I felt it was important to share this story before we dive in. I’ve been flying drones for over seven and a half years, and until now, I’ve never been able to get my children interested in them. That changed with the DJI Neo.

A Drone for Everyone

Tonight, I took my dog for a walk, and my 10-year-old joined me. I asked him if he wanted to fly the Neo, and he agreed. Within minutes, he was eager to do more. This is the first time any of my children have shown excitement about drones. The Neo makes drone flying instantly accessible, removing the intimidation factor that often comes with learning to fly.

Introducing the DJI Neo

I believe the DJI Neo will usher in a new generation of drone enthusiasts. Price and operational uncertainty have been the primary deterrents for potential drone owners. The Neo addresses both issues.

Hi everyone, welcome back to the channel. This is 51 Drones, and my name is Russ. Today, we’re not doing a typical drone launch day video. I’ve only had the Neo for a few days, and many of you already know a lot about this drone due to extensive leaks.

The Most Versatile Drone Yet

The biggest takeaway from this video is that the Neo is the most versatile drone ever released. You can fly it by itself, with your phone, with various controllers, and even with DJI Goggles 3. It’s designed to be crashed multiple times with minimal risk of damage.

Important Questions Answered

In this video, we’ll address some key questions about the Neo, such as its stability, ease of operation, subject tracking, quick shots modes, battery life, noise level, and image quality. We’ll also discuss its availability.

Availability

As of September 5, 2024, the Neo is available worldwide except in the United States, where it can only be pre-ordered. There are three versions available, depending on your region.

Testing the Neo

Stability Test

Let’s begin by testing the Neo’s stability. I’ll push it around and demonstrate one of its coolest features.

The Neo holds its position remarkably well and can land immediately when you hold out your hand. This feature is especially handy for beginners who may not be comfortable using a controller.

Wind Resistance

Next, let’s see how the Neo handles strong winds. I tested it in 21 mph sustained winds with 33 mph gusts. Despite the conditions, the Neo performed admirably, tracking me and holding its position surprisingly well.

Ease of Use

The Neo is incredibly simple to use. My son was able to fly it within seconds, and he absolutely loved it. This was a significant moment for me, as it was the first time any of my children had shown enthusiasm for a drone.

Tracking and Quick Shots Modes

The Neo performed well when tracking a moving subject, such as a scooter. It navigated obstacles adequately and had a maximum tracking speed of around 12 mph. The quick shots modes worked similarly to its predecessors, with Circle mode being particularly impressive.

Battery Life and Noise Level

The Neo’s battery life is approximately 15 minutes, which is about 83% of the advertised flight time. This is quite good for a DJI drone. However, the Neo is not a stealthy drone; it has a high-pitched tone similar to the Avata series.

Other Notable Features

  • The Neo utilizes O4 transmission, with an advertised signal strength of 10 km.
  • It features voice recording, which stores a separate audio file on the drone’s hard drive and removes the drone’s noise.
  • The Neo has 22 GB of onboard storage but no memory card slot.

Conclusion

The DJI Neo is an amazing little drone packed with features and flexibility. Use the link in the video description to purchase or pre-order the Neo. Stay tuned for more detailed tutorials on the 51 Drones channel. Don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share this video if you found it helpful.
