Slovak battery manufacturer InoBat announced the launch of its E10 cell, a high-performance battery designed specifically for military drones and unmanned aerial systems. This move comes as European nations ramp up defense spending in response to geopolitical pressures, creating a growing demand for advanced Drone Technology. The E10 cell promises significant improvements for military drones, offering a 40% greater payload capacity and a 60% longer flight time compared to existing market options. Additionally, the battery can charge in under 15 minutes, a critical feature for rapid deployment in defense operations.
InoBat’s CEO, Marian Bocek, emphasized the battery’s role in advancing European defense capabilities, stating, “We are engaging with drone manufacturers that require a technologically superior European battery solution.”
Production of the E10 cell is set to begin in September 2025, with InoBat already in early-stage collaboration with select European drone manufacturers.
The battery’s development took place at InoBat’s facility in Voderady, Slovakia, a hub for the company’s innovation in electric vehicle (EV) and now defense applications. Previously focused on EV and electric vertical take-off and landing (EVTOL) batteries, InoBat is now adapting its expertise to meet the unique demands of military drones, such as extended range and heavier payloads.

InoBat’s entry into the drone battery market is timely, as the demand for European-made, high-spec batteries grows in both defense and industrial drone sectors. Bocek described the move as “a natural evolution” for the company, noting, “Driven by demand for European-made, high-spec batteries in both defense and industrial drone markets.” The E10 cell is also designed to comply with NATO supply chain requirements, ensuring it meets stringent standards for military use.
Economic and Operational Impacts
Financially, InoBat has secured significant backing to support its expansion. The company raised over 400 million euros ($447 million, based on the exchange rate of 1 euro = $0.8942) in funding, including 100 million euros ($89.42 million) announced in December 2024. This capital will support the E10’s production and InoBat’s broader ambitions in the defense sector. Additionally, Chinese battery maker Gotion holds a 10% stake in InoBat, and the two companies have a joint venture to produce EV batteries for Volkswagen starting in 2027. However, Bocek clarified that the drone battery business remains separate from this partnership, ensuring compliance with NATO regulations.
Operationally, the E10 cell could redefine mission capabilities for military drones. A 60% increase in flight time translates to longer reconnaissance missions, potentially extending operational ranges by hundreds of miles, while the 40% payload boost allows drones to carry heavier sensors or equipment.
