AVSS – Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions Inc. has announced the release of the PRS-M3E, a new drone parachute system designed specifically for the popular DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and DJI Mavic 3 Thermal drones. The company is now accepting pre-orders, with deliveries to authorized resellers set to begin in July 2024.
Lightweight, Compact, and Compliant
The PRS-M3E boasts a lightweight, small form factor design that seamlessly integrates with the DJI onboard PSDK. This plug-and-play solution includes a Parachute Recovery System (PRS), Flight Termination System (FTS), Automatic Triggering System (ATS), Manual Triggering Device (MTD), and compliance with EASA 2512, ASTM F3322-22, and FAA’s Cat. 2 and Cat. 3 requirements.
EASA MOC 2511-Compliant Version in the Works
Following the PRS-M3E launch, AVSS plans to introduce the PRS-M3EX, an EASA MOC 2511-compliant version featuring segregated FTS. Unlike other compliant versions, the PRS-M3EX will not require extensive modifications to the drone’s internal wiring, ESC, or motors, nor will it use a mechanical FTS that physically jams the propellers.
Engineering Challenges Overcome
Mariah Murray, Vice President of Operations at AVSS, stated that the company received numerous requests to develop the PRS-M3E. Initially hesitant due to the limited 130-gram payload capacity, the engineering team worked diligently to reduce the product’s weight while maintaining a commercially viable, non-invasive FTS and an acceptable descent rate for kinetic energy targets below 15 joules (11 ft-lbs). This effort ensures that the PRS-M3E does not exceed the maximum take-off weight of the DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and Thermal models while meeting the kinetic energy and transfer of energy targets set by Civil Aviation Authorities.
DroneXL’s Take
The introduction of the PRS-M3E by AVSS is a significant development for DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise and Thermal Drone operators seeking enhanced safety features. As the commercial Drone Industry continues to evolve, the demand for reliable, compliant parachute recovery systems is on the rise. AVSS’s commitment to developing innovative solutions that prioritize safety without compromising performance is commendable and aligns with the growing need for advanced risk-mitigation technology in the drone sector.
