Grey Arrows Drone Club Spearheads Comprehensive Data Mapping Project
In a significant development for recreational drone enthusiasts, Grey Arrows Drone Club has announced the integration of over 370 Local Authority Byelaws and Policies governing the recreational use of drones into their Drone Scene platform. This comprehensive data mapping project is the result of more than 370 Freedom of Information (FOI) requests submitted to Local Authorities throughout England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland in March 2024.
The FOI requests sought detailed information regarding the authorities’ regulations on the recreational use of drones from land under their jurisdiction. Grey Arrows Drone Club asked each authority about the existence of specific byelaws and policies related to the recreational use of drones, requesting digital copies or links to the relevant information.
Over Four Million Data Points Define Local Authority Boundaries
In addition to the byelaw and policy information, over four million data points defining the exact boundaries of each Local Authority have been incorporated into the Drone Scene platform. This high level of mapping detail enables Club members to find byelaw and policy information for each local authority with just a couple of clicks.
The results of this extensive data mapping project are available electronically to Grey Arrows Drone Club members at any time. This accessibility ensures that drone operators can easily consult local byelaws and policies before flying from publicly owned land.
Drones and Local Regulations: Navigating the Landscape
The integration of Local Authority Byelaws and Policies into the Drone Scene platform represents a significant step forward in ensuring responsible and compliant drone operation. By providing drone enthusiasts with easy access to the relevant regulations, Grey Arrows Drone Club is helping to promote safe and Legal drone use.
As the popularity of recreational drones continues to grow, it is crucial for operators to stay informed about the specific regulations that apply to their flying locations. The Drone Scene platform’s comprehensive database of local byelaws and policies serves as an invaluable resource for the drone community.
Looking Ahead: Empowering Drone Operators
With the successful integration of over 370 Local Authority Byelaws and Policies, Grey Arrows Drone Club has demonstrated its commitment to empowering drone operators with the knowledge they need to fly responsibly.
